Military-grade temperature and humidity control and monitoring products

Military supplies play a critical role in safeguarding national defense, yet the vast array of military items—ranging across numerous categories—often encounter a variety of challenges during storage and transportation due to China's diverse and unpredictable climate conditions. In particular, fluctuations in temperature and humidity can lead to issues such as mold growth, rusting, spoilage, and even cargo collapse, causing significant damage to these essential resources.

As military weapons and machinery become increasingly sophisticated and precise, their manufacturing costs continue to rise. Therefore, timely packaging inspections of military equipment, along with proper maintenance and care during storage and transportation, are especially critical.

After years of expertise in inspecting military supply packages, the center has accumulated extensive experience in military packaging testing. When it comes to testing military packaging, in addition to controlling the water vapor and oxygen permeability of protective materials, it’s also essential to incorporate complementary protective products that meet the demands of long-term storage—features that are indispensable for visualization-based monitoring systems designed to ensure optimal protection.

So, what exactly are they? Dr. Bao, who has extensive experience in military product packaging and testing, will now explain how oxygen concentration indicator cards, humidity indicator cards, desiccants, and deoxidizers—when used according to relevant standards—help monitor military supplies.

Oxygen Concentration Indicator Card

Relevant standard: GJB 7121-2011 Oxygen Concentration Indicator Specification (Monitoring)

The indicator card is highly sensitive: it turns red when the oxygen concentration drops to 0.1% or lower, displays purple at around 0.5% oxygen, and shows blue when the oxygen level reaches 1% or higher.

It can sensitively indicate the oxygen concentration range inside sealed packaging through distinct color changes.

Humidity Indicator Card

Relevant standard: GJB 2494-95 Moisture Indicator Card Specification (Monitoring)

The color-changing range of the humidity indicator card is ±5% RH around its indicated reading. For example, a panel showing 30% RH will start to change color at 25% RH and reach full discoloration at approximately 35% RH—and this pattern continues accordingly.

Please note that the unit packaging should not be left open for extended periods; each indicator card removed should be used immediately. The unit packaging must be resealed right away (the envelope should be sealed promptly).

When the unit packaging is first opened, the indicator patch should be blue at 50% r·h or lower. If the indicator patch extends beyond the ink circle, the indicator card must be discarded.

Desiccant

Relevant standard: GJB 2714-96 General Specification for Active Desiccants in Static Moisture-Absorbing Bags for Packaging (Control)

Desiccants should have a certain moisture-absorbing capacity, typically absorbing around 5 grams of moisture per unit mass under standard humidity conditions; their moisture absorption rate should also reach approximately 1 gram per day per unit mass.

Deoxidizer

Relevant standard: SB/T 10514-2008 Food-grade Deoxygenators (Controlled)

The oxygen absorption capacity of the desiccant should reach approximately three times its rated value—for example, if a desiccant is labeled as "Type 200," it should absorb around 600 ml of oxygen. Additionally, the nominal deoxygenation time must be within 48 hours.

Please note that during product transportation, avoid exposure to sunlight and rain. Also, do not mix or store the product with items that are toxic, hazardous, odorous, volatile, corrosive, or likely to compromise product quality.

Military packaging inspections for high-end electronic equipment such as electronic components and precision optical parts—particularly those used in aerospace and naval applications—are conducted under extremely stringent conditions regarding humidity and oxygen concentration in the storage environment. This ensures that critical components remain free from rust and corrosion, preserving their performance and preventing any compromise to daily training or battlefield readiness.

The use of oxygen concentration indicator cards, humidity indicator cards, desiccants, and deoxidizers cleverly leverages the natural patterns of humidity changes inside military equipment packaging, taking advantage of temperature and humidity control conditions influenced by environmental shifts. This approach effectively manages the internal temperature and humidity levels within military supply packages, minimizing the damage caused by climate-related fluctuations—and ultimately enhancing the reliability and protection of military assets during storage and transportation.

When it comes to military product packaging testing, the center not only boasts extensive testing experience but also cutting-edge, precision equipment. We are fully equipped to handle all types of packaging inspections for military supplies used in national defense, thereby supporting the growth of our nation's defense capabilities. We warmly welcome customers to reach out for more information or consultations.
